Female empowerment is a huge part of who we are at House Of, and it's not just because our team is currently made up of all women.
We recognize that 85 percent of all garment workers around the world are women, and many of them are victims of exploitation, forced to work under awful conditions. At House Of, we're focused on giving people better, more humane options for how they shop, by exclusively carrying products that are ethically made by local designers and businesses. And many of those designers also recognize the need for change in the way our shopping habits impact women around the world.
In honor of International Women's Day, we want to celebrate some of House Of's female designers who are paving the way for a new generation of girl bosses, along with brands that focus on providing sustainable employment for women, giving them a chance to live a better life. These brands are proving every day that women can change the world, and we're proud to partner with them in their efforts.
Holly Maher — Founder and Lead Designer, Wink Wink Paper Co.
"It's a subtle kind of everyday oppression, I feel like, that we experience as women... As an outspoken and independent kind of gal myself, I relish every opportunity I have to go against the grain. A card is a simple, old-fashioned thing, but they're powerful connectors of people, and a really beautiful tool for empowerment. I love that women buy my cards to bolster other women!" -- Holley
Wink Wink Paper Co. creates fun, inspiring prints and greeting cards. What better way to encourage and empower the people you love than with a hand-written card?
ABLE — "Beautiful products by women who have overcome"
"ABLE chooses to work with women because we know that when women thrive so do the economies in which they operate... Whether your purchase is produced in Ethiopia, Mexico, Peru or at our headquarters in Nashville, TN, each item has one thing in common: through working with women, it is leading all of us a step closer to the end of generational poverty." -- ABLE Website
ABLE employs women all around the world to produce its lifestyle products and encourages other brands to be accountable for the wages and safety they provide their workers. Everything the company does seeks to empower women.

The Vintage Sparrow jewelry focuses on themes of inspiring and empowering every woman who wears it. Annie's passion and heart for others is so evident in all of her work, making her an inspiration to everyone she meets.
Elizabeth Stewart — Founder and Designer, Ann + Rob
"Lately I’ve been making a lot of dresses. One part of the process is having my girlfriends and I try them on along the way to see how they fit. We’re all shapes and sizes, and the most exciting result is when one of us will put it on, look in the mirror, and feel 'on.' There’s just something about the perfect dress that is so empowering." -- Elizabeth
Elizabeth is the true definition of a girl boss, balancing school and running a business. Ann + Rob's upcycled clothes are designed to make everyone feel confident in their style while also making a positive impact on the environment.
Bethany Wilson — Owner and Designer, Bela Begonias
"Running my own business is one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Because it is my greatest challenge, making something out of nothing and seeing the business blossom is also my greatest reward." -- Bethany
Bela Begonias jewelry and pottery is all handmade by Bethany, inspired by nature and wanderlust. Bethany has built her business up from nothing over the last few years, and her artistry, passion and success make her a true inspiration.
These are just a few of the many incredible brands at House Of which prove that strong, creative women can do anything they set their minds to. You can make a real difference by supporting these brands, and we're honored to provide that opportunity to you at House Of.
"Here's to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them."
Happy International Women's Day everyone!
